Windows commad actually gives you?Is it serial number of your motherboard? Documentation is not clear about it.

command call the Win32_BIOS
wmi class and get the value of the SerialNumber

Press the enter key. The result you see under serial number column is your motherboard serial number

if run from a command line (start-run should also do the trick) prints out on screen the Serial Number of the product,
(for example in a toshiba laptop it would print out the serial number of the laptop.

Ever wonder how can you find laptop serial number using command prompt???
Here is a quick command that you can use to find the Serial Number of your machine.
To find the serial number, open command prompt (cmd) and type the following command.

c:>wmic bios get serialnumber
This will give you your machine’s serial number by pulling the information from BIOS. This is how it will look like.
